This book provides a general introduction to nanogels, and designs of various stimuli-sensitive nanogels that are able to control drug release in response to specific stimuli.

Nanogels are three-dimensional nanosized networks that formed by physically or chemically crosslinking polymers. They have highly interesting properties such as biocompatibility, high stability, particle size adjustment, drug loading capability and modification of the surface for active targeting. They can respond to stimuli which results in the controlled release of drug and targeting of the site.

Navid Rabiee graduated with a BSc degree from Shahid Beheshti University, Tehran, Iran, in 2016. In 2018, he received his MSc in Inorganic Chemistry from Shahid Beheshti University, Tehran, Iran. In 2017, he joined ANNRG to collaborate with Professor Mahdi Karimi's Research lab in Iran University of Medical Science, Tehran, Iran, in association with Professor Michael R Hamblin from Harvard Medical University, Boston, MA, working on smart microcarriers/nanocarriers applied in therapeutic agent delivery systems employed for diagnosis and therapy of various disease and disorders. Mohammad Rabiee, PhD, is an associated professor of Biomedical Engineering Department of Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. His current research interests include smart drug delivery systems, tissue engineering and biological sensors. He has published over 80 ISI papers and also over 70 International Conference papers, in addition, he has been teaching and research for 27 years at Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. Mojtaba Bagherzadeh, PhD, is a professor of the Department of Chemistry at Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. His current research interests include inorganic chemistry, inorganic catalysis and bio-inorganic chemistry. He has published over 100 ISI papers, with the H-Index of 31. Michael R Hamblin is a principal investigator at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine, Massachusetts General Hospital, and an associate professor at Harvard Medical School. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Photobiomodulation, Photomedicine and Laser Surgery and he has authored or edited 23 textbooks on photodynamic therapy and photomedicine.
