Lyle H. Hamilton, Ph.D. is Professor of Physiology in the Medical College of Wisconsin and Principal Research Scientist for the Zablocki VA Medical Center, both in Milwaukee, Wisconsin., Jerry M. Calkins received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemical engineering from the University of Wyoming. After a tour of duty with the U.S. Army at the Harry Diamond Laboratories where he served as the Director of the Biomedical Engineering Section, he obtained his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Maryland. He subsequently joined the engineering faculty at Arizona State University. Because of his interest in technology in medicine, he chose to study medicine and received his M.D. from the University of Arizona. After completing his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Arizona, he accepted a faculty position in the Department of Anesthesiology with a joint appointment to the Clinical Engineering Program of the College of Engineering. Dr. Calkins is currently an Associate Professor and the Vice Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine., Josef Neu, M.D. is Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. Dr. Neu obtained his M.D. degree at the University of Wisconsin, completed his pediatric residency at Johns Hopkins University Medical Center in 1978, and completed his fellowship in neonatology at Stanford University Medical Center in 1980. He also served on the faculty at the Medical College of Wisconsin for 3½ years before joining the faculty of the University of Florida. Dr. Neu is the Associate Division Chief of the Division of Neonatology and the Co-Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the University of Florida Shands Hospital. He is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He has authored/coauthored approximately 40 articles, abstracts, and chapters related to pediatrics, several of them in the area of neonatal ventilation.
