Food Chemicals Codex on CD-ROM- the definitive enumeration of food-grade chemicals based on identity, strength, and purity. Co-published with National Academy Press.
The Food Chemical Codex project began in 1961, following the passage of the 1958 Food Additives Amendment to the federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. It is currently under the administrative supervision of the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine/National Academy of Sciences. The Codex is, in many respects, comparable to the United States Pharmacopoeia and the National Formulary for drugs, insofar as it is designed to promote uniformity of quality and the assurance of safety for food chemical manufacturers and users.
Though produced under the auspices of domestic organizations, the Food Chemicals Codex committee is cognizant of the need for international harmonization, so wherever feasible, specifications in the Codex are consistent with other international standards-setting organizations.
System requirements: IBM-compatible computer, 486 or higher, running Windows™ 3.1 or higher, 8MB RAM, CD-ROM drive
