Topics such as bandstructure, effective masses, holes, doping, carrier transport and lifetimes are discussed. Next, the author focuses on the operation of the important semiconductor devices along with issues relating to the optimization of device performance. Issues such as how doping, device dimensions, and parasitic effects influence device operation are also included.

Jasprit Singh is Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Also Professor in the university's Applied Physics Program, he has published four previous books, including Physics of Semiconductors and Their Heterostructures and Optoelectronics: An Introduction to Materials and Devices. Dr. Singh's research interests include semiconductor materials and their devices for information processing.
