PROCESS INSTRUMENTATION introduces the key elements of modern process control, and prepares you for a career as a process technician in the chemical processing industry. Using a step-by-step approach, the book begins with an overview of industry symbols and diagrams, instruments, equipment, systems, and technology, as well as the fundamental concepts of pressure, temperature, level, flow, and compositional variables, and how they apply to a control loop and various methods used in process control. Clear objectives in every chapter take you from tracing and drawing simple process flow diagrams (PFD) to eventually reading, sketching, and troubleshooting an operating unit on your own using a piping and instrumentation drawing (P &ID). Written from the unique perspective of the process technician rather than an instructor, PROCESS INSTRUMENTATION helps you identify and internalize your roles and responsibilities in process control, giving you a head start on your future.

Charles E. Thomas is a professor and Division Chair at Lee College in Baytown, Texas where he teaches Process Technology, Safety Management, and Manufacturing Engineering Technology. Prior to joining the Lee College faculty, Dr. Thomas worked for Exxon Research and Engineering and Exxon Chemicals in a variety of operational, research and development, and training system roles. Dr. Thomas holds an A.S. from University of the State of New York, a B.A. from Western Illinois University, an M.S. from the University of Texas, and Ph.D. from Texas A. & M. University.
