An innovative, evidence-based program that has proven effective in helping young children learn the social and emotional skills necessary for school readiness and success. The teaching approach combines a number of sensory modalities, using stories, mnemonics, coloring books, songs, role-playing, and visual aids.

The curriculum is built around four original stories and songs - featuring delightful animal characters:

Rosie the Roadrunner learns to follow directions
Prairie Dog Pete learns to share
Roscoe the Raccoon learns to manage his behavior
Prickles the Porcupine learns to solve problems

The program has been thoroughly field-tested in clinical trials and in Head Start preschool settings. It is also appropriate for young children in child care situations and for school-age children in early elementary grades.

The complete program includes a storybook, a music CD, a teacher's guide, and 10 coloring books for each story (40 coloring books in all).Multisensory Format

The spiralbound storybook allows the teacher to read from one side, while displaying the colorful illustrations on other side to the class. Older students can read aloud, and younger students and nonreaders can listen to the teacher read the stories as they look at the illustrations.

Children will enjoy singing along or listening to the music CD featuring songs sung by a lively group of youngsters accompanied by various musical instruments.

Students will also have fun coloring in their coloring books. Each of the four stories has a separate coloring book produced in quantities of 10 (40 coloring books in all—enough for 10 students). The teacher's guide provides step-by-step instructions for using the program. Appendices offer skill definitions, skill steps, and patterns for making felt-board and puppet cutouts of the animal characters.
