This book provides theoretically informed personal narratives of fifteen ‘Academic Mothers’ working in universities in various countries. The narratives of these mothers focus on their professional experiences and how these are influenced by their identity/role as mothers. This book is an invaluable resource for other academic mothers as they may find the narratives could help them negotiate their own conflicts and challenges through the life stories from across the world captured in this book. The international narratives highlight the commonalities and differences in the struggles experienced by academic mothers with their unique contexts. This book contributes to our collective understanding of the challenges experienced by academic mothers in their professional contexts owing to motherhood as they navigate their way through the ever-increasing demands of the higher education contexts.
Lindsey Light is Senior Lecturer in English at the University of Dayton, USA. Namrata Rao is Principal Lecturer in Education at Liverpool Hope University, UK. Anesa Hosein is Associate Professor and the Head of Educational Development and Research at the Institute of Education, University of Surrey, UK.
