This book examines animal sacrifice as practised by the adherents of the major world religions. It raises the issue of the mass production of meat and exhorts the Muslim community, particularly in the West, to tackle the issue of "Halal" meat in an appropriate manner. Al-Hafiz Basheer Ahmad Masri (1914-1992) was the joint editor of The Islamic Review. In 1964 he became the first Sunni Muslim to be appointed as the Imam of the Shah Jehan Mosque, Woking, England. He worked closely with the charity Compassion in World Farming (formerly the Athene Trust), which in 1988 published the first edition of this book, "Animals in Islam".
