This text is for Logic teachers. It reflects the approach that has resulted in substantial logic enrolments and the positive reaction of students to the courses offered during forty years of teaching over twenty thousand first year students. It's for lecturers, tutors, and post-graduate students who are asked at short notice to teach logic. It offers practical advice about lecturing without imposing general schemes for teaching. The emphasis is on students rather than course content. It's assumed that course content is Formal Logic and its application to the evaluation of premise-conclusion argument.
Rod Girle's Modal Logics and Philosophy is well known, and his Introduction to Logic is used widely in Australia and New Zealand. He has published in Logic, Modal Logic, Non-classical Logic, Theorem Proving, Artificial Intelligence, Dialogue Logic, Critical Thinking, and Philosophy. He has taught in both Philosophy and Computer Science Schools in Australia and New Zealand. He was until recently a staff member of the University of Queensland Critical Thinking Project. He is an Honorary Academic in Philosophy at The University of Auckland, New Zealand. His interests include the student ethos and the way logic is taught to students who are logic novices.
