This book offers a thorough examination of the multifaceted impacts and responses enacted by South Asian economies to extra-ordinary health threats such as the recent pandemic of COVID-19. It places a strong emphasis on critical elements of healthcare service demand and supply. Presenting a meticulous evaluation of health sector interventions, the book focuses on the efficacy of vaccine policies and the durability of substantial improvements made to healthcare infrastructure during the pandemic. It addresses some key themes such as the economic and social landscapes existing before the pandemic, as well as quality and scope of the interventions employed. The analysis also reviews the performance of various nations across different waves of COVID-19 and outlines actionable recovery strategies to rebuild stronger health systems. is the book also explores the call to implement universal health coverage (UHC) that specifically targets vulnerable groups, in conjunction with a variety of health insurance schemes. It is an important resource for researchers, policy makers and all those working towards improving the health infrastructure in South Asia in particular, and Global South in general.
