This book looks at the Islamic Common Market (ICM) of the Organization of Islamic Co-operation (OIC), the world’s leading international Islamic organization. The ICM is a long-term goal of the OIC to achieve economic integration among member states by fostering the free movement of goods, services, capital, and labour, similar to other common markets but within an Islamic framework of transactions. This book offers simulations that tie it to ummah's social economy. This book charts the Islamic Common Market as a new wave of thought and activity towards this most important event of the ummah. Assessing its wider goals for 2050, and its forthcoming initiation in 2030, it considers the organization's past accomplishments and forthcoming challenges, in concert with its moral and material potentiality, and in relation to that of the socio-economic world-system. The author maps the OIC’s aims to preserve Islamic social and economic values, promote solidarity amongst member states, increase cooperation in social, economic, cultural, scientific, and political areas, uphold international peace and security, and advance education, particularly in science and technology. Professor Masudul Alam Choudhury is an established academic in the field of Islamic studies, with a focus on Islamic economics and finance. His work has been highly recognised in both Western and Muslim academic circles. Professor Choudhury obtained his Ph.D. specializing in the field of Human Capital Theory and Economic Growth from the University of Toronto. He is the first academic in his field to address the original methodology of Tawhid (monotheism) as ontological law in the development of a Theory of Meta-Science. Professor Choudhury is the International Chair in the Postgraduate Program in Islamic Economics and Finance at Trisakti University in Jakarta, Indonesia. He teaches and supervises doctoral students, and researches and publishes in the areas of Islamic socio-scientific methodology, shari’ah and economics, and policy-theoretic applications using these foundational areas of Islamic studies. He is a regular Summer Visiting Professor in the Social Economy Centre of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto. The author's recent magnum opus, published by Springer Nature is entitled, A Handbook of Islamic Philosophy of Science: Economics, Science, and Society (2024). Professor Choudhury is Editor-in-Chief of the quarterly scholarly Journal of Critical Realism in Socio-Economics, which is published by the University of Darussalam Gantor, Indonesia.
