'PRETTY
PENNY Aspects of Money' is a Poetic Play, composed of cyclic poems interconnected by prose, which convey the views, anxieties and aspirations
of characters from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. The play can be read or performed. The script offers an
insightful and engaging experience for readers, performers and educators alike.
PRETTY PENNY Aspects of Money is a Poetic Play that
brings to life a vivid cast of characters from diverse socio-economic
backgrounds: the benevolent rich, the eager small earner, the resigned gambler,
the dignified nouveau poor, and more.

Through a cycle of poetic monologues and conversational prose, the play
reflects the impact of money on these true-to-life individuals, showing how it
shapes their thoughts, emotions and behaviour, expressed through their views,
anxieties and aspirations.

Although these dramatic monologues, originally written in 1989 amid the global
financial crises of the 1980s and 1990s, are powerful enough to illuminate the
tragicomic circumstances of the protagonists, the recently added light-hearted
prose enhances the drama and adds more humour to the stage presentation.

The script can be read as literature or staged as a full performance, complete
with director’s notes and stage instructions.

The 2026 first published edition is an amended and enlarged version that
includes the prose and the final poem written in 2024, yet it has retained the
timeless relevance and universal appeal of the original manuscript.

PRETTY PENNY Aspects of Money offers insightful and entertaining
character studies drawn from sociology and psychology, appealing equally to
readers, performers and educators.
