This motivational and practical guide provides useful strategies for organizing and writing dissertations while addressing common challenges faced by doctoral students.
Navigating the Dissertation Writing Process: Finding Your Path from First Drafts to Submission is a supportive guide for one of the most demanding and sometimes overwhelming aspects of academic life: writing a doctoral dissertation. Writing a dissertation is a unique academic task with its own—often unspoken—rules, expectations, and pressures. Dr. Megan Krone draws on years of experience supporting hundreds of doctoral students and candidates, as they moved from through first drafts to final submissions and then across the stage to receive their well-earned degrees. In this book, Dr. Krone demystifies common challenges in writing a dissertation to make the writing process more manageable. She offers clear, practical strategies for developing productive writing habits, describes common academic writing expectations and conventions, and shares step-by-step advice on organizing and writing each chapter. This book is an encouraging how-to companion to help you move through the stages of writing a dissertation with clarity, confidence, and a little less stress.

Megan Krone, PhD, is a lecturer at DePaul University and a freelance academic editor, specializing in APA style and doctoral dissertations in the social sciences. She has copyedited over one hundred dissertations that have been successfully submitted and accepted and has provided coaching for dozens of doctoral research proposals and dissertation drafts. Krone has also supported other projects, such as academic journal articles and technical books. She uses an encouraging, personalized approach to help writers meet their goals, while maintaining their purpose and voice in their written work. Krone has worked in higher education for over 20 years, and her network and client base are international. She was a long-time member of NIRSA (Leaders in Collegiate Recreation) and has presented at numerous regional and national conferences. She has also copyedited four books published by NIRSA. She also has ties to ACPA, NASPA, and ASHE, all higher education organizations. She released a piece on Medium that currently has over 29,000 views, has been published on the NIRSA website, offering advice to individuals who are considering the pursuit of a doctorate degree, and was interviewed for Campus Rec Magazine. In addition, her YouTube videos on APA formatting in Microsoft Word have over 267,000 views.
