Although Sweden has traditionally been one of the most significant donors in global health and development, it is barely mentioned in international scholarship on the history and politics of global health. The book addresses this gap by examining global health from Swedish perspectives, both historical and contemporary. By using Sweden as a case study, the book also traces and untangles the relationships between domestic norms and values, international engagement, and national identity.

Rachel Irwin is an associate professor in ethnology at Lund University, where her research is on global health politics and diplomacy. She holds a PhD from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
