Understanding the CELPIP Test Format

The CELPIP General Test is designed to measure your ability to use English in everyday situations. It covers:

● Listening: Understanding spoken English in conversations and discussions.

● Reading: Understanding written passages, advertisements, emails, and more.

● Writing: Composing emails and survey responses.

● Speaking: Responding to prompts and situations using a microphone.

Test Duration and Scoring

The test is completed in one sitting and takes about 3 hours. Each component is scored from 1 to 12, with scores aligned to the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB).

For many immigration and citizenship applications, a CLB level of 7 or higher is often required.

Essential Test Information

● Test Locations: CELPIP is available both online and at more than 140 test centers in Canada as well as globally. You can find locations online.

● Registration: Register online at CELPIP Registration

● Fees: $290 CAD + tax (Canadian pricing; international may vary)

● Test Day Requirements: Bring a valid photo ID and your confirmation email.

● Retaking the Test: You can retake the test as many times as needed, provided there is a minimum of 4 calendar days between attempts.

Transfers and Cancellations

Transfer Policy

If you need to reschedule your CELPIP Test:

● Eligibility: You can transfer to another test session of the same type (e.g., CELPIP-General to CELPIP-General).

● Timing:

• At least 7 calendar days before the original test date: You can transfer your test through your CELPIP Account.
• Less than 7 calendar days before the test: Contact Paragon’s customer service at 778-327-6854 or [e-mail]. Paragon may require supporting documentation (e.g., a doctor's note or evidence of bereavement) to process the transfer.

● Fees:

• First transfer: Free of charge.
• Subsequent transfers: CAD 50 plus applicable taxes.

● Process:

• Sign in to your CELPIP Account.
• Under “Upcoming test,” click “Actions,” then select “Transfer to a different sitting.”
• Follow the prompts to complete the transfer.

Note: Transfers are subject to availability and must be for the same test type.

Cancellation Policy

If you are unable to attend your scheduled test session:

● Timing:

• At least 7 calendar days before the test date: You may cancel your registration through your CELPIP Account.
• Less than 7 calendar days before the test date: You may still cancel, but no refund will be provided

● Refunds:

• At least 7 days before: You will receive a refund of 50% of the test fee.
• Less than 7 days before: No refund will be issued.

● Process:

• Sign in to your CELPIP Account.
• Navigate to your test registration and select the cancellation option.
• Follow the instructions to complete the cancellation.

Note: Cancellations are only processed through your CELPIP Account and must adhere to the specified timelines.

Retake Policy

If you wish to retake the CELPIP Test:

● Frequency: You may register for only one test session within any 5-calendar-day period. Registrations violating this rule may be canceled by Paragon.

● Preparation: It is recommended that you engage in additional study before retaking the test. CELPIP provides various study materials and resources to support your preparation.

Note: Ensure that your test registrations comply with the 5-day interval policy to avoid cancellations.
