This book details a cutting-edge smart airport infrastructure with a focus on sustainable, net-zero energy solutions and advanced technologies. The current global trend is construction so that all infrastructure is self-sustaining and implements the latest technologies to achieve net-zero energy and net-zero water. The demand for smart airport technology is estimated to be primarily driven by the rising investments being made in building new greenfield airports and expanding existing airports globally to accommodate the anticipated rebound in passenger traffic.

The Global Smart Airport Market Research & Size report includes segments on airport operations (landside, airside, and terminal side), geography (North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Middle East and Africa), and technology (security systems, communication systems, air and ground traffic control, passenger, cargo, and baggage ground handling). For each of the aforementioned market segments, the study provides market size and projections in the billions (USD).

Technical topics discussed in the book include:

Evolution of Lighting Technology on Runways
Building Management Systems
Baggage Handling Systems
Elevators and Escalators
Electrical Design Aspects
Source of Electrical Power
Critical Buildings

Dr. O.V. Gnana Swathika (Member’11–Senior Member'20, IEEE) received a B.Eng. degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Madras University, Chennai, Tamilnadu, India, in 2000, an M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, USA, in 2004, and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from VIT University, Chennai, Tamilnadu, India, in 2017. She also completed her post-doc at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. Her current research interests include microgrid protection, power system optimization, embedded systems, and photovoltaic systems. She currently works as Professor at Centre for Smart Grid Technologies, Vellore Institute of Technology, Chennai, India. Mr. K. Karthikeyan is an Electrical & Electronics engineering graduate with a Master’s in Personnel Management from the University of Madras. With his two decades of rich experience in electrical design, he has contributed immensely towards the building services sector comprising airports, ITOS, tall statues, railway station/depots, hospital and educational institutional buildings, residential, hotel, steel plants, automobile plants in India and abroad (Sri Lanka, Dubai and UK). He is currently working as Chief Engineering Manager – Electrical Designs for Larsen & Toubro construction, commonly known as L&T, which is an Indian multinational EPC contracting company. He has also worked for other major companies like Voltas, ABB, and Apex Knowledge Technology. His primary role has involved preparing/reviewing complete electrical system designs up to 110 KV voltage levels and the detailed engineering stage covering by various electrical design calculations, design basis reports, suitable for construction drawings, and MEP design coordination. He is the point of contact for both client and internal project teams, leads and manages a team of design and divisional personnel, day-to-day interaction with clients, peer review, managing project deadlines, project time estimation, assisting in staff appraisals, training, and recruiting.
