Outshine tells you everything you need to know about becoming an effective female leader.
Outshine tells you everything you need to know about becoming an effective female leader—particularly in the male-dominated world of technology. Written by Shemin Nurmohamed, EVP at Pitney Bowes, with coauthors Marine Aubin and Georgina Hill of the Carbon Leadership Network, this book challenges the unconscious choices and limiting beliefs that hold women back from top leadership roles. Drawing on years of global executive experience, Nurmohamed is refreshingly honest about the systemic and personal obstacles that women face—and precise about how to overcome them.

Candid and deeply practical, Outshine is a guide for women navigating power, perception, and ambition in the tech sector. Built on the eight actionable traits at the core of the Carbon Leadership methodology—Choice, Confidence, Character, Clarity, Consistency, Change, Calm, and Community—Outshine equips women with a blueprint for sustainable, self-defined success.

With research-backed insight, sharp storytelling, and no tolerance for platitudes, Outshine helps readers reframe their confidence, build a consistent personal brand, and cultivate networks that actually deliver. This book doesn’t ask women to try harder. It teaches them how to work smarter, louder, and more deliberately.

Outshine is a must-read for women in STEM, ambitious early-career professionals, HR directors, and corporate changemakers ready to build inclusive leadership from the inside out.

SHEMIN NURMOHAMED is executive vice president and president of sending technology solutions at Pitney Bowes. Prior to this role, she held CFO, director, and VP roles at local, EMEA, and Global levels at several Fortune 500 companies. Born in Tanzania to immigrant parents and educated at Cornell University, Shemin spent nearly two decades living and working in France, where she discovered a profoundly different approach to balancing life and work, and brings a unique cross-cultural perspective to questions of work, family, and finding contentment. She shares these insights regularly as a speaker across the US, Europe, and the Middle East. Shemin lives with her husband and two children in Connecticut.
