Hedgy Visits the Dentist is a colourful picture book which aims to encourage children to go to the dentist, reduce any worries or anxiety they may have and hopefully make their first dental visit a pleasant one. It also supports children with additional needs and those with social or sensory differences, including those who are neurodivergent.

In the story, Hedgy the hedgehog visits the dentist for the very first time. We hope that after reading the story your child will have a good idea of what a dentist does and what they might expect once they arrive. Includes: a step-by-step guide on how to clean teeth; an award chart with Hedgy stickers; an activity maze to reinforce the five steps to healthy teeth and useful tips for parents/carers too. With thanks to the Oral Health Promotion Team at Sussex NHS Foundation Trust for their advice on current national guidance on toothbrushing (2025).

Julie Alison McDonald - Before embarking on her writing journey, Julie previously worked with neurodivergent children in a school setting. This, combined with the diagnosis of her son's autism, lead her to research the topic at great length. What Julie began to notice was that these children were often misunderstood. So Julie set about creating a series of children's picture books aimed at educating young children (and parents too) about our unique differences. Julie hopes that through the increased understanding and awareness that her books teach, this will lead to greater acceptance in the world and a kinder place for everyone to be. Anna Emilia - is the author of Little Cat and Friends, a series of books featuring Molina, a curious cat. As a child Anna struggled to read and communicate, and knows first hand the difficulties that children face and often mask to hide challenges faced. Being diagnosed with dyslexia as an adult was a game changer, it all made sense. Her passion is that no child is left behind and believes it's integral that the sooner a child learns to read the easier it is to communicate. Julie and Anna have now teamed up to form Cogmaze Publishing Ltd where they write inclusive children's picture books, working closely alongside experts.
