A social justice perspective guides educators to reinvent communication courses by interrogating assessment, mentorship, dialogue, inclusivity, and student well-being. It provides tools and insights to nurture classrooms that foster critical thinking, empathy, and transformative learning.
Teaching from the Heart: Critical Communication Pedagogy in the Communication Classroom introduces instructors to teaching communication studies content from a social justice perspective. The second edition showcases voices from some of the most influential scholars in the field, who offer cutting-edge perspectives addressing challenges facing education. Drawing on Critical Communication Pedagogy (CCP), the authors frame their writing within a perspective that affirms: "The world as it is, is not the world we deserve."

The book focuses on teaching communication courses through a critical interrogation of practices, such as assessment, mentorship, dialogue, inclusivity, and student mental health. Additionally, the text offers teaching materials to help instructors plan for their classes.

Teaching from the Heart is an exemplary text for new and seasoned instructors who wish to teach communication courses grounded in social justice. Its content empowers educators to foster inclusive communication classrooms where critical thinking, dialogue, and empathy are paramount to resisting oppressive practices and embracing liberatory education.
