This is the second, enlarged edition of the well-received thematic guide in which Professor Wellens has combined all the requirements that a researcher is looking for: the texts, in chronological order according to the topical issues and geographical distribution, accompanied by a succinct summary of the most salient features of the facts leading to the submission of the case to the Council. This is a most useful approach to a collection of documents reflecting nearly a half-century of international relations and disputes which states have had to settle mainly through the Security Council. Six weeks after the publication of the first edition, Iraq invaded Kuwait: this was a major international event leading to the adoption by the Security Council of a series of resolutions, and followed over the years by other important developments in different parts of the world (the situation in Angola and Somalia, the efforts towards peace in Central America, the situation in Cambodia, the dissolution of Yugoslavia and disintegration of the USSR). This second, enlarged edition takes account of the many developments that have occurred since June 1989.
