R. S. Milne is a professor emeritus of political science at the University of British Columbia. He has written and edited more than a dozen books and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Diane K. Mauzy is a lecturer in the department of political science, University of British Columbia. She has published a number of books and articles on politics in Malaysia and is editor of Politics in the ASEAN States (1984).
