Edward Omeni draws on concepts from sociology, psychology, and social pedagogical research to examine the experiences of international students in Poland. The analysis places particular focus on the range of strategies adopted by the students in response to forms of personal and social violence and the resulting forms of social exclusion and precariousness. By means of a detailed analysis of narrative reports, the dynamics of coping with the situation are theorized in the situational/social-cultural context of higher education in Poland - a location and setting where aspects of intercultural relations and the identity struggles of ethnic and cultural minorities remain relatively understudied.

Autor

Edward Omeni (PhD) works as a Research Associate at the University of Bayreuth, Germany. He has worked in a variety of research roles including faculty positions at Kings College, University of London and the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. His main academic interests are in the fields of social work, sociology of health and healthcare and the sociology of coping and social action. His published research includes texts on international education and institutional responses to stakeholder led initiatives in healthcare.
