Although several books have explored the relationship between the state and immigrant or black women, women have rarely been studied specifically in relation to general ethnic and national processes and groupings. Similarly, many studies about nationalism and the state refer to the relationship between nationalism and racism, but the specific roles women play in these processes are rarely considered.
