DiaGram enables a teacher to profile each pupil's understanding of the grammar and "sentence-level" skills required by the National Literacy Strategy, and to pinpoint individual learning needs. Fully photocopiable, the targeted worksheets use age-appropriate vocabulary and contexts to focus on the language knowledge expected of all pupils entering secondary school. Follow-up tests help to ensure that new learning is secure. The focused worksheets and tests cover all the basic parts of speech (nouns, verbs, pronouns, adverbs, prepositions,etc), punctuation (capital letters, stops, apostrophes, speech marks, etc), and effective use of language (eg paragraphing, metaphor, alliteration, rhythm, etc). Adrienne Stevens is a language and special needs tutor, and author of 'DiaPhon Diagnostic Phonics/Spelling Support Packs 1 & 2' and the 'DiaGram Language Support Pack'. Her varied career spans more than thirty years and includes teaching English to CSE/GCSE in multi-racial comprehensive schools in socially deprived areas in the north and south of the country and a boy's Remand Centre; setting up and running a special needs department within a large comprehensive school; teaching English as a second language; and work within the private sector of education. She holds an RSA Diploma in SpLD and is an active member of the Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties (PATOSS).
