Spanning almost three millennia from all continents of the world, the treasures of the British Library include some of the most famous documents, such as the "Lindisfarne Gospels", a magnificent example of the illuminator's art, the "Diamond Sutra", the world's earliest printed book, Gutenburg's 42-line Bible, the first book printed with moveable type, and Shakespeare's First Folio. Other items such as the Magna Carta are included, while among the many thousands of manuscripts are the earliest versions of some of the best-known works of English literature, from "Beowulf" to "Alice's Adventures Under Ground". In addition, there are rich collections of other materials - maps, music, stamps and sound recordings - all of which include world-renowned works.
