A comparison of politics and administration in Japan and Germany at first seems to be a comparison between highly similar industrialized states. This volume provides the first in-depth study about the two countries - the differences in their administrative and political party systems, the differences in the international environment which they faced after the World War Two and during the Cold War.
The orientation towards innovating the public sector upon existings forms of administration is analysed in chapters on post-war politics; administrative reforms ; industrial policies; labour policies; and political intervention and market competition.
