The late Karen Matison Hess, PhD, wrote extensively in law enforcement and criminal justice, gaining a respected reputation for the consistent pedagogical style around which she structured each textbook. Christine H. Orthmann holds an M.S. in criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati and has been writing and researching in various aspects of criminal justice for over 20 years. She is the co-author of numerous Cengage Learning textbooks, a former reserve officer with the Rosemount, Minnesota, Police Department, and a member of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS), the American Society of Criminology (ASC), the Text and Academic Authors Association (TAA), and the National Criminal Justice Honor Society (Alpha Phi Sigma). John Paul Wright is Professor of Criminal Justice in the School of Criminal Justice at the University of Cincinnati. Professor Wright received his Ph.D. in criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati in 1996. He has since published over 100 scientific articles, books, and book chapters on the development of juvenile delinquency and violence. Dr. Wright is best known for his work in biosocial criminology, which has invigorated research into the genetic and biological foundations of crime and violence. In addition, Dr. Wright is a highly sought after presenter and has given lectures across the United States.
