Pathways books provide ideal material for the teaching of the Literacy Framework and now these Teacher’s Notes provide support and ideas for all the teaching aspects of the Framework on a year by year basis.
* An introductory section provides information about using the Pathways books in the literacy hour.
• 16 titles are recommended as guided readers, including Longdale Park books for reluctant readers – but the notes are flexible so that teachers can choose their own books
• There are 2 big book anthologies at this level but ideas are also provided to help teachers use some of the other titles as shared readers through Shared Reading Activity Masters in the Pathways to Literacy Activity Masters
• A double page of notes for each Pathways books provides:
– links to literacy objectives at word, sentence and text levels
– a brief synopsis of the book, linked to text range
– ideas for activities for shared, guided and independent reading and writing
– activities which link to the Pathways to Literacy Activity Masters. There are five activity masters for each big book and two for each of the other books
• Tables at the back of the book cross-reference the Pathways books to the literacy text range and to literacy objectives at word, sentence and text levels
• Notes and photocopiable record sheets are also provided for assessment.
