Summary of contents The Secondary SEAL Resource Bank: Extended Student Activities and Staff Training will support you to: *Use a whole-school approach to create the climate and conditions that implicitly promote the skills and allow these to be practiced and consolidated *Direct and focus learning opportunities for whole classes (during tutor time, across the curriculum and outside formal lessons) and as part of focus group work *Use learning and teaching approaches that support pupils to learn social and emotional skills and consolidate those already learned *Encourage continuing professional development for the whole staff of a school. This practical resource is divided into two parts: the first provides three comprehensive training sessions for your staff, outlining the key components of a comprehensive and successful SEAL approach. The second part provides a comprehensive program of student based skills and learning activities. Part 1 - Staff training In this section three training sessions have been developed for training your staff. Each has an accompanying Powerpoint presentation, activities and detailed facilitator's notes. *Training Session 1: Introduction to Emotional Literacy, PowerPoint and Staff Training Activities *Training Session 2: Introduction to the DCSF SEAL Approach and Curriculum, PowerPoint and Staff Training Activities *Training Session 3: Introduction to Secondary SEAL Made Easy, PowerPoint and Staff Training Activities Part 2 - Student program Each theme in this section is split into resources for the individual, resources for small groups and resources for the whole class. When working individually the student is often encouraged to discuss ideas and thinking with the facilitator. For small group and whole-class activities the discussions are with a peer partner or in a group.
