The aim of this resource is to consolidate students' understanding of the set texts through content questions, while an appreciation of the language is fostered through an examination of literary effects and by focusing on vocabulary and syntax at both sentence and word/phrase level. True/False and 'reconstruction' activities, Discussion and Pair Work are intended to encourage students to respond personally, to think analytically, and to enjoy the insight into the culture of Ancient Rome afforded by the material studied. It is hoped that there will be enough in this resource to challenge both Higher and Foundation Tier students.

Bridget Dunseith and her sister Patricia have collaborated in this Resource from their love of languages in general and of Latin in particular. They have taught in both the public and private sectors as well as in Adult Education; Bridget has offered courses in Classical Studies at the University of Surrey that have proved popular, while Patricia has taught overseas and more recently on the World Literature course at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. Bridget was born in Belgium and Patricia in Italy; both were brought up and educated in Portugal.
