Hardback notebook bound in British cloth, woven in the UK. Edge stained, elastic closure, pen loop, ribbon marker, eight end perforated leaves, expandable inner note holder. Contains a removable booklet about the history of clan tartans, and a bookmark that gives information on the Stewart Modern Black tartan. High quality binding. 80 gsm cream paper for notebook insides. All paper components are FSC (from stewarded forests) and EUDR compliant paper.

The Stewart Modern Black tartan is a contemporary variant in the Stewart tartan range, and labelled as Modern, in contrast to the hunting or ancient. It has a black background, with vivid overcheck colours of bright yellow, white, red, green, and royal blue.

The Stewart clan has over 30 tartans associated with it, and they relate to different branches of the clan. Different origins and different variations related to 'dress' tartans and 'hunting' tartans. Royal Stewart is dominated by vibrant red, with Stewart Hunting as lighter greens and cool blues.
It was with Mary, Queen of Scots that the Stewart name became spelled also as Stuart.
Commonplace Notebooks were used in the Scottish Enlightenment and thinkers such as Adam Smith, Robert Burns, David Hume and later writers such as Sir Walter Scott, Conan Doyle and Woolf adopted them.
Queen Victoria and Prince Albert bought and extended Balmoral Castle in 1848, and Prince Albert designed the interior with red Royal Stewart tartan, and green Stewart Hunting for carpets, and Dress Stewart for curtains and upholstery.
