Gremlins is a 1984 "horror comedy" produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by Joe Dante. The film is about a young man (Billy, played by Zach Galligan) who is given a pet "mogwai" as a gift. The creature is adorable but also dangerous. When wet or fed after midnight he spawns other mogwais who transform into destructive, evil Gremlins. This story's sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, was released in 1990.
