From nutritional labels and box office statistics to terabytes and megapixels, the 21st century world is awash in numbers. How can the average Joe or Jane make sense of all that data? The key, Theoni Pappas argues, is math. In Mathematical Snippets, she draws readers into the fascinating world of math without overwhelming them with mind-numbing equations. Short, engaging sections on everything from golf to game theory introduce mathematical concepts and celebrate math's impact on daily life.

Mathematics teacher and consultant Theoni Pappas received her B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley in 1966 and her M.A. from Stanford University in 1967. Pappas is committed to demystifying mathematics and to helping eliminate the elitism and fear often associated with it. In 2000 she received The Excellence in Achievement Award from the University of California Alumni Association. Her books have been translated into Japanese, Finnish, French, Slovakian, Czech, Korean, Turkish, Russian, Thai, simplified and traditional Chinese, Portuguese, Italian, and Spanish. Pappas has written over 14 books which are focused on introducing people to the many wonders of mathematics. She is perhaps best known for ever popular The Mathematics Calendar. Her other innovative creations include: The Math-T-Shirt, The Children's Mathematics Calendar, The Mathematics Engagement Calendar, and What Do You See?-an optical illusion slide show with text.
