Asma Aftab received her PhD in Applied English Linguistics from the University of Birmingham, UK. She has more than twenty years of experience teaching English language and applied linguistics. She is currently working as an assistant professor in Kinnaird College, Pakistan. She has published and presented on language skills, assessment and materials. Her recent publications include a book titled Revisiting Second Language Materials: A Pakistani Perspective; "Principled application of authenticity as an alternative teaching paradigm for Pakistani ESL classrooms" published in the edited volume Authenticity in Materials Development for Language Learning; and "The relative impact of L1 and L2 glosses along with computer-generated phonological guidance on EFL learners' vocabulary learning" published in the journal Cogent Education. She was the keynote speaker in the annual seminar on English Language Studies held in Indonesia in 2020; she presented the paper titled "Understanding the value of 'communicative power' in the 21st century".
