An exciting first-hand account of the colourful Holi festival that celebrates the arrival of spring. The magical and exciting story is followed by a fun “factivity” section packed with information on the festival plus activities, recipes and craft projects to enjoy.
A colourful and immersive book that introduces kids to the joy and meaning of Holi through an exciting first-hand account.

Every March, people across India and around the world celebrate Holi, the Hindu festival of colour, new life, love and spring. In Celebrations & Festivals: Holi, the festival is brought to life through the eyes of two children who are celebrating Holi with their family and friends.

Join Basanti and her twin sister as they pick flowers, tell traditional Hindu stories around the bonfire, prepare delicious sweet dumplings, and playfully throw bright gulal powders over each other, turning everyone’s white clothes into a rainbow of colour and a symbol of new beginnings.

Along the way, you’ll learn all about the significance and history of the festival, brought to even more life with:

- Instructions to make your own colourful tie-dyed T-shirt
- A recipe to make delicious kulfi ice cream
- A fun quiz to test out all your knowledge

In this immersive exploration of Holi, young readers join a family as they celebrate. Seen through the eyes of young children celebrating themselves, this is a simple and exciting way to introduce little ones to this special period.

In the Celebrations & Festivals series, own-voice artists bring each festival to colourful life with authentic details from their own childhoods.

Sital Gorasia Chapman grew up in London with a cheeky younger brother and lots of cousins. As a child she was a big reader and the library was one of her favourite places. When she wasn’t reading, she was writing, doodling or daydreaming about stories, and as an adult she has now authored many books for children. She loves the colour and playfulness of Holi and the way it brings people together.Pranami Bora is a self-taught illustrator based in northern Italy. She was born in a little town in the northeast Indian state of Assam, home to more than one hundred different ethnic groups with their own distinct identities and traditions. The diverse cultures and beauty of the nature that she grew up around has been her biggest artistic influences. Pranami has loved to draw since she was a child. Alongside her passion for art, she pursued a PhD in Computational Biology. Yet, she never let go of her creative side. In 2022, following the birth of her twin daughters, Pranami felt reconnected with her own childhood and discovered that her true passion was in children's illustrations.
