"Geography Pathways" is an innovative Key Stage 3 course written for the new CCEA Northern Ireland curriculum. The series aims to provide comprehensive coverage of the Geography requirement of the Environment and Society criteria of the curriculum. A key feature of the course will be the emphasis on the role of skills acquisition and the interconnection of skills across the curriculum as defined by CCEA. The course introduces key geographical skills and concepts with specific reference to Northern Ireland, exploring a range of themes, resources and thinking strategies to meet the statutory requirements of the new curriculum. Features of this book include: themed chapters to cover each of the key elements as outlined in the new curriculum; clear learning intentions for each chapter to enable a pupil-centred learning experience; and, get active tasks to promote understanding through thinking and learning strategies using the five skill categories of managing information, decision-making, demonstrating creativity, team work and self-management. The Teacher's Resource CD will provide an integrated course package to support those new to the curriculum and non-specialists.
It will be downloadable in a PDF format and will provide guidance about how the course, skills, and components connect together. The resource is also available as editable Word files, which include worksheets, a sample scheme of work and advice on how to get the best out of the Get Active tasks. The author team are experienced geography teachers and advisers.
