Diagnosis Detectives allows young readers to embrace the ick and celebrate the science that goes on beneath our skin. Join a team of quirky characters that live in the human body as they investigate the clues behind mystery symptoms to find each culprit to illnesses and ailments, and learn about weird and gross bodily functions in this playful illustrated non-fiction book.

n this book, scientific facts meet fiction. With their love of all things yucky, children will discover everything from poo to farts, tears to sweat, snot to spots, and more. They’ll explore the body of an ordinary kid, who asks: what is ear wax made of? why do we have eye gunk? why do I keep catching colds?

Hero Micro Mike (a crime-solving white blood cell) and his gang work out what’s wrong with their human host by investigating symptoms and inspecting suspects, before revealing culprits. Readers and parents can play along as they decipher the clues.

Ben Elcomb had a successful career working in television production on a variety of shows including ITV’s This Morning, Britain’s Got Talent and Ministry of Mayhem, and the BBC’s reboot of The Basil Brush Show, Ben branched out into writing scripts for CBeebies’ Something Special. He has written non-fiction books for children, including two books in Flying Eye’s Eva Beaver series (How to Build a Pyramid/Skyscraper) and StemVille: The Bee Connection and The Fast Lane. Also, he wrote Operation Ouch – The HuManual, a companion book to the multi-BAFTA winning CBBC show Operation Ouch. As a father of two children, Ben continues to pursue his passion for writing entertaining and informative works for young audiences. Terri Po grew up in Hong Kong and studied illustration at the University of Edinburgh, and now lives and works from a wooden cabin in the countryside. She likes drawing anything blobby, including but not limited to: brains, intestines and liverworts.
