Hands-on Numeracy Books 1 & 2 Teachers CD-ROM provides the stimulus material and teacher guidelines for each lesson in the accompanying VELS student workbook which contains 40 lessons designed to develop the students' numeracy skills within the framework of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards. There are multiple activities for the same topic so teachers can select the best activities for their students, for example, there are cooking exercises as well as lessons on keeping statistics for an AFL game.

Elizabeth Howe is Head of Maths and Numeracy at St Monica's Collete, Epping, a large Catholic school in Melbourne's north. She has presented booked-out sessions at the MAV Annual conference as well as publishing works for the MAV and for Learning Matters. Under her guidance, St Monica's received the State Numeracy Award in 2004, the only secondary school to receive the award.
