As with all volumes, you don't have to start from the beginning-each story is self-contained, and the book can be enjoyed in any order.

As a reminder, the top and bottom Japanese texts are identical in meaning. The top version is only in hiragana and includes spaces between words. The bottom version has no spaces and uses kanji with furigana.
Unless you are just practicing hiragana recognition, try to work through both versions to improve reading speed, reading comprehension, listening comprehension, vocabulary, kanji, and grammar. If you don’t feel confident in your understanding, review the English translation at the end.

- 鯛という tai to iu – called “tai” [鯛たい (sea bream) + という (called; named; the thing referred to as)]
- 魚 sakana – fish
- の no – of; modifying particle
- 形 katachi – shape; form; figure
- をした o shita – shaped like; formed into [を (object marker) + した (past form of する, to do/make)]
- お菓子 okashi – sweet; treat; confectionery
- で de – and; used to connect to the next phrase [て-form of です]

なか に あんこ が たっぷり はいって います。
- 中に naka ni – inside [中なか (inside) + に (location marker)]
- あんこ anko – red bean paste
- が ga – subject particle; marks あんこ as the subject of the verb
- たっぷり tappuri – in plenty; full; generously
- 入っています haitte imasu – is inside; is filled [ています-form of 入はいる (to be in; to contain)]
中なかにあんこがたっぷりはいっています。
めいじ じだい から たべられて います。
