School students involved in the process of applying to UK universities have a range of information available to help them choose. Such resources include official University prospectuses, publicly available course details and advice from teachers. The "PUSH CD" seeks to provide balanced, fair and impartial information on the experience of living at a particular univeristy. The shortcomings of official prospectuses and "unofficial" books are thus overcome. Each of the 200 universities in the UK are covered on the CD-ROM by a 2-3 minute multimedia presentation seeking to convey an accurate impression of life at that university. The second release of "PUSH CD" will also include audio-visual presentations on the 100 major towns in the UK. Each presentation is expected to contain 40-50 images. Sophisticated search software will allow students to select only those universities teaching courses they are interested in; this course information will be compatible with ECCTIS - the definitive CD-ROM guide to information on university campuses.
Students will also be able to detail their personal preferences on a range of "soft" issues (campus/non-campus, off-site accommodation, balance of sexes, etc) and match this profile to the universities.
