Her two middle grade biographies Catherine de’ Medici “The Black Queen” and Njinga “The Warrior Queen” were part of the American Library Association’s Top Ten Non-Fiction Series for Youth in 2012. Janie earned a Master’s in Education degree from Bank Street College and taught in schools and museums. Janie lives in San Francisco, California.
