This video cassette is designed to accompany a book and audio cassette teaching French to intermediate and advanced students. The package of materials has been designed to suit the requirements of: post-16 AS and A level courses; vocational courses; and first year Higher Education courses.
This video cassette is designed to accompany a book and audio cassette teaching French to intermediate and advanced students. The package of materials has been designed to suit the requirements of: post-16 students on AS and A level courses; vocational courses like RSA, BTEC, City & Guilds, and GNVQ, with an intermediate or advanced language component; or those in the first year of Higher Education. The material consists of 20 selected contemporary French TV clips from news programmes on the French TV channel, "France 2" - these are contained in this video. These are complemented by extracts from the French press, which are reproduced in the book, to provide 10 units of topic-based material. Each unit in the material includes two video clips and two printed texts. The first clip and text are exploited at an easier level than the second ones, so that students can study any one of the topics at a level of difficulty appropriate to their ability and experience. The clips and texts are exploited by means of three types of activity: "Vous avez bien compris?"
, comprehension exercises; "Un peu de grammaire", varied grammar practice; and "Projets pratiques", vocationally-oriented tasks concentrating on practical applications of the language covered. The "Projets pratiques" give opportunities to practise, within the context of the unit topic, the language skills explained in the "Savoir-faire" section. This special section of the book is a guide, giving clear, step-by-step advice and examples to demonstrate practical language skills useful to those working with French, such as: business letter-writing; summarizing; note-taking; talking with a business visitor; making telephone calls; and dictionary use. The soundtrack audio cassette, taken from this video, is available to provide listening comprehension practice and to facilitate home study.
