Students work singly and in groups on a variety of activities. Annotation of text is used as a device for extracting meaning, role play often builds upon group discussion work, and there are several different approaches to investigating characterization and the writer's intentions. All the tasks encourage a close reading of the texts and are designed to help students develop the skills of inference and "reading between the lines". The texts used are all available in hardback in the "New Windmill" series.
