The materials in this resource pack enable teachers to see how the work covered by Book 5X of the Macmillan Secondary Mathematics Course relates to the National Curriculum (NC) objectives, and to assess and record their pupils' progress in terms of National Curriculum Attainment Targets. Book 5X contains a large "curriculum map" which shows how the course relates to the programmes of study within the NC. The record keeping resources consist of a set of four photocopiable record cards from the assessment materials supplied in the pack. The assessments made by other means, as in practical work, oral work, homework and cross-curricular projects, can be entered on the record cards and the assessment materials can be used separately from the record cards. The assessment materials from this pack fall into four categories - A mental work, B computer work, C written test based on the contents of each chapter in the book and D more open-ended assessment tasks. Mental work is a recognised part of the NC and computer work opportunities are represented here to enable the students to expand their level of comprehension.
Category C tests relate directly to the exercises and activities of each chapter while D provides more open-ended assessment tasks. The last section of this pack comprises the answers to the exercises and suggestions on investigation found in the Pupil's Book.

Part 1 Course guide: introduction; curriculum map; NC coverage in Book 5X. Part 2 Record keeping resources: records; the recording process; record cards 1-4. Part 3 Assessment materials: objective appertaining to mental work not covered by the textbook; objective appertaining to computer work not covered by the textbook; content/objective coverage related to individual chapters; assessment tasks content/objective related to individual chapters and each to a number of objectives. Part 4 Answers to exercises and suggestions for investigations in Book 5X.
