This book explores the grammar of to infinitives and gerundial -ing clauses, which is a central area at the interface of syntax and semantics, against the background of what has been called the Great Complement Shift. Juhani Rudanko is Professor Emeritus of English at the University of Tampere, Finland. Previous books include Complementation and Case Grammar (1989), Prepositions and Complement Clauses (1996), Changes in Complementation (2011) and Linking Form and Meaning (2015).
