Six beautifully illustrated reading comprehension assessment tasks (including fiction, non-fiction and poetry) give children opportunities to develop their independent reading comprehension skills. The fiction texts include short extracts from stories by best-loved children's authors such as Michael Morpurgo, Malorie Blackman and Anthony Horowitz.
Engaging Grammar Cards and Assessments can be used to embed children's understanding of grammar concepts and for extra practice and consolidation.
End of Year Grammar Tests assess cumulative knowledge and are great practice for the format of the 2016 National Curriculum Tests, helping children meet those higher expectations.

Ruth Miskin is one of the UK's leading authorities on teaching children to read. She has many years of experience as a head teacher, teacher trainer and consultant in phonics and literacy, working with primary and secondary schools throughout the UK. Ruth has been an adviser to the Government on many aspects of literacy teaching since 1997. Her work has been featured both by Newsnight on BBC1 and Dispatches on Channel 4. Ruth was awarded an OBE for services to Education in 2011. Jenny Roberts is an experienced author of teaching and training materials.
