Jane M. Shimon, EdD, is an associate professor in the department of kinesiology at Boise State University in Boise, Idaho. She was named the Outstanding College Educator of the Year in 2006 by Idaho AHPERD, and the College/University Educator of the Year in 2007 for AAHPERD's Northwest District. She has first-hand experience in teaching physical education and health at the secondary level, and has been teaching an Introduction to Physical Education class for the last 10 years. She has supervised student teachers in many states across the country and in rural, urban, and suburban areas. These experiences have broadened her views of PE programs Shimon has been a member of various state Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance organizations and has served on the Journal of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance editorial board and on a subcommittee for the National Association for Sport and Physical Education. She is also a certified athletic trainer and a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association. She enjoys cycling on the roads and in the mountains, water-color painting, and reading mysteries and historical fiction.
