The Author: Wladimir Admoni (1909-1994) was born in St. Peterburg. He studied «Germanistik» at the Pedagogical Institute and received his first degree in 1930. After the war, in 1947 he defended his doctoral thesis on Ibsen. He taught at various universities in Leningrad and published widely on numerous aspects of German and Scandinavian literature and linguistics. Wladimir Admoni was a corresponding member of the «Akademie der Wissenschaften» in Göttingen as well as corresponding member of the «Institut für deutsche Sprache» in Mannheim. He was awarded the Goethe Medal in 1971. In 1980 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Uppsala and in 1988 was awarded the Konrad Duden Prize for his outstanding contributions in the field of German linguistics.
The Editors: Theo Harden and Harald Weydt teach German linguistics at University College Dublin and Europa-Universität Viadrina, Frankfurt/Oder respectively.
