This is the second volume of a source of easy-level questions for the assessment of scientific knowledge and understanding for the National Curriculum. It is part of the "GASP" project and is intended to help in the design of assessments, topic tests, term tests and end-of-year examinations. These questions can also form the basis of such activities as homework and revision. Three levels of questions are available, covering a wide range of difficulty: within middle and secondary schools, the medium questions are suitable for the average pupils and above. Questions are not directly age-related. All the questions have been written and tried by teachers in a variety of schools in several LEAs. Straightforward language allows the questions to be easily translated or used by pupils with learning difficulties, and ethnic and gender bias is avoided throughout. Each bank is updated regularly as new questions are written and tried. Each sheet of questions is designed to be used as an original for photocopying. There are no copyright restrictions. The "GASP" content banks are part of the complete "GASP" package for assessment.
"GASP" is a criterion-referenced assessment scheme, designed to be both formative and summative. As well as assessing knowledge and understanding, the "GASP" framework also includes the assessment of cognitive processes and manipulative skills, and explorations. The use of this framework can lead to GCSE certification.
