This electronic product provides a silvicultural guide to the characteristics of tree species. The "Forestry Compendium" concept includes species data sheets (prepared by experts worldwide), pictures, maps, bibliographies, abstracts, a glossary and a user notepad. In addition, there is an alternative guide to species selection based on site characteristics, management objectives and end products. Module 1 includes over 600 tree and shrub species important in tropical and subtropical climatic areas in the Asia-Pacific Region. Coverage includes indigenous and exotic species of interest for plantation forestry and/or regeneration and multipurpose species for agroforestry. The compendium which has many African and Neotropical species as well as those of the Asia-Pacific region, contains information on around 40 per cent of species important in worldwide plantation forestry.
